The unpredictable nature of the photo-transfer process allows for a spirit of experimentation and play that makes creating this series a fun and exciting challenge. Each photo is enlarged, photo copied, then transferred onto canvas using various forms of acrylic gel. Each transfer creates a unique image (similar to a monoprint). With the transfer process I use, no image transfers the same way twice. Once the paper is removed (another unpredictable process,) I manipulated the resulting “print” with some combination of charcoal and acrylic paint. For me, the less perfect the transfer, the more interesting the resulting image becomes. I find great beauty in imperfection. This process and the resulting images serve as studies and sketches for larger paintings.
